In the continued effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Canada has announced that as of tomorrow, November 21, 2020, all travellers entering Canada as their final destination, regardless of citizenship (including Canadian citizens and permanent residents), must provide contact and quarantine information before entering on the ArriveCAN portal or smartphone app.
The mandatory information, which is required to be submitted prior to boarding, includes:
- Contact information;
- Travel details;
- Quarantine plan (unless exempted under conditions previously set out); and
- COVID-19 symptom self-assessments.
Travellers will need to be ready to present the ArriveCAN receipt when seeking entry, and untimely submissions may result in delays at the border for public health questioning and be subject to potential enforcement actions, including a $1,000 fine.
After arrival, travellers must continue to use the ArriveCAN portal or smartphone app to:
- Confirm that you have arrived at the address you provided for your quarantine or isolation location within 48 hours of your entry into Canada; and
- Complete daily COVID-19 symptom self-assessments during your quarantine period.
Even if travellers qualify for a quarantine exemption for the purposes of performing an essential job or function as identified in the Quarantine Act, they will still be required to fill out pre-boarding information on ArriveCAN, as applicable.
